WHAT IS QIGONG?
Qigong is the process and mastery of the cultivation and refinement of chi (life force energy), leading to profound healing, enlightenment and full expression of life. It is a most powerful natural means, centered in ancient Taoist wisdom and classical Chinese medicine, of harmonizing the body, mind, spirit and soul to restore pure health and peace to empower enlightenment and well being naturally. Qigong’s foundation is well rooted in the ancient Taoist philosophy of living in alignment with the natural elements, and its wisdoms form the basis of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Qigong Lifestyle® consists of the practice of gentle, sometimes still, exercises that are meditative in nature, spiritual self-discovery, the alert and active refinement of consciousness, eating simply and properly to maximize the energetic benefits of whole foods, and receiving clinical qigong treatment to boost self-healing and growth.
WHAT IS TAI CHI?
Tai Chi Chuan is a soft style of martial art that evolved many years ago from Qigong and uses meditative movement to strike a balance of the yin and yang qualities of chi between ourselves and environmental influences that approach us. The primary function of Tai Chi is to teach the proper intention of martial arts through a gentle and subtle learning process. When the structure and intent of the tai chi form is modified appropriately, outstanding healing benefits are realized when practiced regularly. Proficiency in tai chi study provides an intricate knowledge and working experience of the effective application of chi – when and how to advance and withdraw – in communication and confrontation, whether friendly or difficult, so that one’s chi is preserved and used effectively only when necessary.
By popular demand, expert teachers Larry Kishiyama and Debra Lin Allen return to share their mastery of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong in this monthly workshop series exclusively for Denver Athletic Club members and non-member guests. Join us and enjoy this fun and remarkably relaxing and empowering exercise experience. Previous knowledge of tai chi and qigong is not necessary. The exercises are gentle, relaxing and suitable for those with physical considerations, yet challenging for agile athletes who wish to increase flexibility, strength, endurance and performance. Dress comfortably and in layers, and be well hydrated.
